SAMR Model

What is the SAMR Model?

"SAMR, a model designed to help educators integrate technology into teaching and learning , was developed by Dr. Ruben Puentedura.  The model aims to enable teachers to design, develop, and integrate digital learning experiences that utilize technology to transform learning experiences to lead to high levels of  achievement for students."

Lesson Ideas following the SAMR Model:

Substitution

  • Researching a subject on Wikipedia

  • Typing a term paper in a Word Doc or Google Doc

  • Using a game app for students that finish work early

  • Using a camera to take photos of a project

Augmentation

  • Creating a Wordle

  • Using Evernote to take class or presentation notes

  • Uploading assignments to Dropbox or a cloud based program

Modification

  • Use 30hands to create a presentation with audio, video, and pictures

  • Using QR Codes for lesson scavenger hunts

  • Students create a Pinterest Board for research on a subject matter. Once they have completed the Search-Evaluate-Validate-Analyze Process, they explain their findings in the description for other students and the teacher to view.

Redefinition

  • Students and teachers collaborating using Google Drive

  • Students viewing and collaborating on lessons in real time using NearPod

  • Creating a class or group WIKI where everyone provides input and feedback on the subject matter.
